NNC to conduct 1st regional BNS congress in Antipolo

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal, October 17 (PIA) –The National Nutrition Council Calabarzon is set to hold the first Regional Barangay Nutrition Scholars Congress themed “BNS 4A, Ikaw na, The Best Ka!” at the Ynares Center, Antipolo City this October 18.

The congress aims to help recognize the importance of Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) in the implementation of nutrition programs nationwide, improve their skills, and address issues and concerns.

It also aims to build camaraderie and boost the morale of Calabarzon BNS and to communicate the 2012 Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF).

NNC Calabarzon nutrition program coordinator Carina Santiago said about 4,000 barangay nutrition scholars from the five provinces and 17 cities in the region are expected to attend the event.

Calabarzon LGU heads and representatives from national government agencies such as the Department of Health (DOH), National Food Authority (NFA) and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) are also attending.

Activities lined up include learning sessions involving the NGF, promotion of iron fortified rice and iodized salt, and best practices in proper breastfeeding guidelines. A mass oath-taking of BNS federation officers, an award for longest serving BNS and search for Ms BNS 2013 will highlight the event.

NNC Calabarzon is organizing the event in cooperation of the Regional Nutrition Committee, Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholars Inc. of Region IV-A, Regional Technical Working Group on Nutrition, Provincial and City Nutrition Action Officers, and Communicators’ Network for Nutrition in Region IV-A.
