Cardona locals contribute to Yolanda relief

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal, November 19 (PIA) –The Cardona municipal government in coordination with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, Department of Education – Cardona, civil service organizations and cooperatives encouraged locals to donate clothes and other goods for Typhoon Yolanda relief operations in the Visayas regions.

Cardona MDRRMO Erwin Dionisio stated that the local government began to organize donations of clothes, hygiene kits, medicine and food items last Nov. 11 as a humanitarian response to the damage caused by Typhoon Yolanda. The first batch of donations was shipped to Visayas yesterday Nov 18 through coordination with the Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM).

“The donation drive is an initiative of both the local government and the people. Even if we cannot be there in person we can help the victims through our donations.” said Dionisio

The MDRRMO also commended a local student to a donation of food items. “A fifth grade student also saved up his allowance in order to donate four cans of sardines and two packs of instant noodles. It warms us up to know that even the children are aware of the need to help our countrymen and are willing to help in their own way.” he added. (GG-PIA4A)
