DOST-Rizal trains local growers in pineapple processing

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal, July 31 (PIA) — The Department of Science and Technology Rizal Provincial Office headed by Fernando Ablaza recently trained members of the Bugarin Pineapple Growers Association & Samahan ng Magsasaka sa Bayan ng Antipolo Inc. in pineapple product processing for two days at the BGPC Processing Plant, Sitio Bugarin, Brgy. Halayhayin, Pilila, Rizal.

Maria Elsa Falco and Melvin Espeña from the Industry Technology Development Institute – DOST served as resource speakers from July 26-27. A total of 38 participants learned how to produce products from their locally grown pineapples such as chutney, pineapple chunks, jam, dried pineapple, wine, and vinegar.

Aside from pineapple products, DOST also gave a few lessons on good manufacturing practices to help the organizations in their production. (GG-PIA4A with reports from DOST-Rizal)
