1st RDC nutrition service caravan held in Antipolo; Government agencies extend services

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal, July 31(PIA) — The Regional Development Council Calabarzon led by the National Nutrition Council 4A launched the first RDC Nutrition Caravan at the Sumilang Elementary School, Sitio Sumilang, Brgy. San Jose, Antipolo City, Rizal through coordination with the Antipolo City government and Rizal provincial government.

Antipolo City has recently been found as one of Calabarzon region’s with the highest incidences of malnutrition leading to the conduct of the caravan in Sitio Sumilang which is home to several flooding.

The inter-agency activity was a culminating activity of various government agencies in line with Nutrition Month themed “Gutom at Malnutrisyon Sama-sama Nating Wakasan.” Activities ranging from a feeding program, medical and dental check-ups, information campaigns, seminars, E-TV movie viewing and tree planting were conducted for locals throughout the day.

Participating government agencies who provided services include the Department of Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Technical Skills Development Authority, International Institute of Rural Reconstruction, National Food Authority, Population Commission Department of Agriculture, Department of Health, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and Kabisig ng Lahi.

Also present during the opening ceremony were Antipolo City Mayor Casimiro Jun Ynares III, Rizal Vice Governor Frisco “Popoy” San Juan Jr, NNC 4A Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Carina Santiago, National Economic Development Authority 4A Regional Director and RDC Acting-chair Agnes Espinas and other regional and local government agency representatives.
