Jalajala coop trains in rennet and cheese making

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal, June 10 (PIA) — Members of the Llano Farmers Multi-purpose Cooperative underwent a two-day rennet and cheese making seminar on June 5-6 at the Llano MPC Dairy Processing Plant, Brgy. Bayugo, Jalajala, Rizal.

Among the topics discussed were general milk treatments, production of rennet (a kind of milk clotting enzyme commonly used in milk production) and other cheese variations.The Department of Science and Technology-Rizal Provincial Science and Technology Center invited resource persons Angelo Tapia and Ione Samago from UP Los Banos College of Agriculture-Animal and Dairy Sciences Cluster (UPLC-ADSC) .

The resource persons lectured on the production of cream cheese, feta cheese and rennet on the first day and in gouda and mozzarella production on the following day.

“The training aims to improve the co-op’s dairy production and range for the market to receive more of its products,” according to DOST-Rizal Provincial Director Fernando Ablaza.

Department of Trade and Industry-Rizal, which is also involved in the said training, hopes that the additional product lines created through the seminar will be showcased in the upcoming Araw ng Lalawigan Trade Fair to be held from June 7-16 in line with Rizal province’s 112th founding anniversary.

Jalajala’s Llano MPC is known for the production of various milk-based products such as yogurt, fresh milk and kesong puti (cottage cheese). (CPG/GG/PIA4A-Rizal)
