ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal, Feb 4 (PIA) — The Department of Education (DepEd)-Calabarzon launched its drive for excellence through the Philippine Quality Award (PQA) which it aims to achieve by 2017.
DepEd-Calabarzon, led by Regional Director Lorna Dino and DepEd 4A Consultant Elena Cruz, oriented their regional staff regarding PQA and excellence in performing functions at the DepEd 4A Regional Office, Karangalan Village, Cainta, Rizal.
According to Dir. Dino, the regional office started its pursuit for the PQA on December 2012 during a series of staff development programs and reviews of services where the regional office identified the need for excellence in order to give quality service to the several divisions in Calabarzon.
PQA is considered the highest level of national recognition for organizational performance which encourages both private and government agencies’ to strive for performance excellence through promoting standards in organizational performance comparable to leading businesses abroad, establishing a national system for assessing quality and productivity performance and recognizing organizations in the public and private sector with quality performance which may serve as models to other organizations.
The award itself serves as a template for excellence based on the principles of Total Quality Management (TQM) and is comparable to the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award of the USA. PQA was created through Executive Order 448 on October 3, 1997 and later on institutionalized through Republic Act 9013 or the Philippine Quality Award Act.
PQA comprises of four levels where only a few regional government offices have achieved the lower levels. DepEd Calabarzon is the first in the Department of Education to launch PQA.
“I believe that we (DepEd Calabarzon) can do this. Team Calabarzon is working together and we are hoping that we can indeed achieve excellence in our services before 2017.” said Director Dino.
A memorandum of agreement was also signed by Dir. Dino and Cruz followed by the signing of commitment by employees and staff of DepEd 4A. (DEPED4A/GG-PIA4A)
