ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal, Jan. 10 (PIA) — Candidates for the positions of Rizal province governor and 1st and 2nd district representatives are running unopposed in the upcoming 2013 elections.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec)-Rizal records show that only incumbent Vice Governor Frisco San Juan Jr., Rizal 1st District Representative Joel Roy Duavit and Rizal 2nd District Representative Isidro Rodriguez Jr. of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) submitted certificates of candidacy (COCs).
The gubernatorial post, however, consists of three candidates including former Rizal governor Rebecca “Nini” Ynares of the NPC and independent candidates Anamariela Bush and Esteban Salonga. Nini Ynares is a substitute candidate for former governor Casimiro Ynares who originally filed a COC for the gubernatorial post.
Antipolo City which serves as the province’s sole component city consists of two congressional districts whose incumbent representatives Roberto Puno (1st district) of the National Unity Pary (NUP) and Romeo Acop (2nd district) of the Liberal Party are also running for re-election.
Incumbent city mayor Danilo Leyble (Liberal Party) is also running for another term as Antipolo mayor against incumbent Rizal governor Casimiro “Jun” Ynares III (NPC).
Comelec Rizal also noted that while there are currently no reported incidents of election related violence, hearsay and social networking have become conduits for political opinions of locals. (Comelec-Rizal/GG-PIA4A)
