ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal, December 20, (PIA) –About 60 children, some of whom are former child laborers from Brgy. San Rafael, Rodriguez, Rizal are the primary recipients of the Department of Labor and Employment’s Project Angel Tree gift giving program.
DOLE 4A Regional Director Alex Avila and staff from DOLE-Rizal distributed gift packs containing school supplies, juice, slippers, food and toys donated by local companies in the province to recipients. According to DOLE-Rizal Senior Labor Officer Guadalupe Macarubbo DOLE partnered with the barangay government to identify the poor children and former child workers for the Angel Tree program. 30 children received their gifts at the San Rafael Barangay Hall while the remaining 30 were distributed at Sitio Wawa.
Director Avila said that Angel Tree has become a tradition of sorts held nationwide by DOLE for poor children and child workers to receive gifts. “Angel Tree aims to make the children know that DOLE and the government is here for them.” Added Director Avila. “This time of year we have the chance to spend time with the children and give them gifts.”
According to to Director Avila, DOLE 4A also recently finished distributing gifts to around 100 children in Quezon province last December 8 and is set to implement Angel Tree in Cavite, Laguna and Batangas before the year ends. (GG-PIA4A)
