ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal , Jan 2 (PIA) — Antipolo City recently commemorated the 138th birth anniversary of Don Juan Sumulong through a short program honoring the Antipolo local.
The ceremony at the Antipolo City Hall was led by Mayor Nilo Leyble, Lorenzo Juan “LJ” Sumulong, and Jose Peping Cojuangco – president of the Philippine Olympic Committee together with the city officials, school officials from the Department of Education (DepEd) headed by Dr. Julie Victor, officials and employees from the provincial government, private sectors and business sectors. Towards the end of the program, balloons were released by government officials and employees to honor Sumulong.
Don Juan Sumulong was born December 27, 1875 and was a politician considered as the Brain of the Opposition during the early 1900s. The local chief executive praised Sumulong as a political visionary who has never spoken truer words about the Philippines and Antipolo.
According to the LGU, the city’s leaders followed the vision of Don Juan Sumulong and contributed greatly to the progress and development of the city. Economic growth brought about by the trust of the business sector which continues to invest in the city, dedicated and trusted leaders and the sacrifices of its own people has made Antipolo the center of progress and development in the province of Rizal.
