ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal, November 28 (PIA) –Five DOST-Rizal projects are approved for the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrade Program (SETUP) as of November according to Department of Science and Technology Provincial Director Fernando Ablaza.
DOST’s SETUP involves the technology acquisition, technical assistance and training for small businesses in order to increase productivity and income generation. The program may also include provision of zero-interest loans payable for three years by beneficiaries.
According to Director Ablaza a total budget of P 3,639,330 has been approved for the five projects. However out of the five, only Jalajala’s Sipsipin Multipurpose Cooperative financial assistance has already been released while the others are currently being processed and are expected to start as soon as possible.
The largest fund allotted is for Cainta’s Tahanang Walang Hagdanan which is at P 1.68 million for a powder coating machine used for metals while the other lined up SETUP DOST-Rizal projects include Quality Upgrading for Antipolo City’s Pancit Bato Production, Coco products in Pililia and Improvement of Furniture Production in Taytay.
Director Ablaza is also hoping for the approval of a currently unapproved SETUP project for Cainta, building insulators processed from recycled cotton taken from denim. SETUP projects amounting to less than P 500,000 will be upon the approval of the DOST Regional Office those above that will be for the approval of the Central Office. (DOST-Rizal/GG-PIA4A)
