ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal, Nov 22 (PIA) — Department of Trade and Industry-Rizal reminds consumers not to let their guards down especially during this Christmas season.
DTI-Rizal Business Regulation and Consumer Welfare Division Chief Cleo Duran advised consumers to be wary of ‘free’ items for promos especially those which require credit card information. “We advise shoppers not to give their credit cards for swiping unless they are sure of the products which they want to buy. There are some cases where stores ask for credit card information or swiping for promos and consumers find transactions of items they did not buy.” Said Duran. According to her, all sales promo activities are required to get a permit from DTI-Rizal.
Duran also warned customers not to be pressured by sales talk, inquire further before availing of promos and to canvas prices before shopping in order to have an estimate of a product’s standard price. Consumers are also advised to avoid the Christmas rush and buy items early.
DTI is also implementing strict monitoring of Christmas goods especially Christmas lights. The agency reminds buyers to purchase lights with ICC stickers and to report establishments which sell lights without ICC stickers.
Lights with no stickers will be confiscated by the DTI and establishments selling them may be fined a minimum of P 25,000. In terms of quality, the agency also advises citizens to avoid buying low quality Christmas lights with thin wiring and plugs.
DTI-Rizal’s Business Regulation and Consumer Welfare Division may be reached through landline 695-1711 and visited at the 2F Altica Arcade, Circumferential Road, Brgy. San Jose, Antipolo City for further information. (GG-PIA4A)
