DOLE distributes stipend for ‘student teachers’

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal, Oct. 9 (PIA) — Nine Systems Technology Instititue (STI)-Tanay students have been given stipends for teaching computer illiterate out of school youth and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology inmates basic computer skills through the Kabataan: Information Technology Opportunities Program.

Department of Labor and Employment – Rizal OIC Engr. Mercedes Delgado together with Provincial Public Employment Service Officer Cecile Diaz, Tanay PESO Sheryl Custodio and STI staff distributed checks worth P 4,400 for each student.

Selected student teachers were assigned to teach out of school youth and BJMP inmates for 176 hours each for 25 pesos per hour.

According to the student teachers both the youth and inmates were eager to learn despite of some them having zero knowledge on how to use computers.

A total of 72 of out of school youth from Barangay Tandang Kutyo, Tanay, Rizal were instructed by the college students in computer use.(GG-PIA4A)
