DSWD targets 13K families in Rizal for Pantawid Pamilya program

ANTIPOLO, Rizal, Sept 8 (PIA) –The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 4A announced that 13,272 poor families from three municipalities in the Province of Rizal are targeted as new beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

These are Taytay with 6,157 families from five barangays; Binangonan with 5,165 families from 38 barangays and Cardona with 1,948 families from 18 barangays.

To prepare the local governments of said municipalities in the implementation of 4Ps in their areas, the DSWD-4A held a consultative meeting with local chief executives together with their department heads.

They were oriented on the program and answered their concerns and doubts about its implementation.

DSWD Regional Director Wilma Naviamos said local government units (LGUs) play a key role in the implementation of the program in their respective areas.

She added that to facilitate the program and achieve its goals for beneficiaries, the LGUs must be fully-prepared in all aspects of program implementation so the department can further ensure the intense engagement of LGUs to the program.

DSWD also guided each LGU in planning for the execution of the program, particularly with regards to the validation and registration of beneficiaries which in effect may reduce the actual number of qualified poor families from the targeted 13,272 families.

Among the local chief executives present during the consultation meeting were Taytay Mayor George Ricardo Gacula II and Cardona Mayor Bernardo San Juan Jr.

Currently, community assemblies are being conducted in these municipalities.

The community assembly is the first stage of the program implementation that validates and registers potential beneficiaries.

The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program is a core social protection strategy of the national government that provides conditional cash subsidies to qualified poor households with children from zero to 14 years old for their needs on health, nutrition and education. (DSWD4A/CPG, PIA4A)
